Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt

Your New Best Friend

Astoria Cat Rescue will consider adoptive families in the Astoria and surrounding areas only. This is simply due to logistics and distance of travel for our volunteers. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the cat's background and your family's needs. Every cat is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right cat with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the cat's permanent home.

If you are willing to wait for the right cat to be matched to you, you are an ideal candidate for Astoria Cat Rescue. As our success rate proves, these precious cats are well worth the wait.

Our Process

How We Help You Find Your New Best Friend!

Finding your feline friend has never been easier. Our 5-step application process is designed to ensure our cats find their purrfect forever homes. From applying online to finding your new companion, we'll guide you through a simple and straightforward journey. Our verification process may be thorough, but it's all about finding the right match for our lovable cats. Let us help you find your new best friend today!

1. Apply & Review

We appreciate your interest in bringing a rescue cat into your home. To help us find the perfect match for you, please submit an adoption application. Our team will carefully review your application and get back to you promptly.

2. Phone Interview

After reviewing your application, an Astoria Cat Rescue volunteer will contact you to schedule a phone interview. This initial conversation helps us understand your preferences, discuss your application, and provide details about the available cats. Together, we'll select a few cats for you to meet and address any questions you may have, ensuring a great match for your home.

3.Meeting Your Cat

We will schedule a convenient time for you to visit the Astoria Cat Rescue house or a foster home to meet our wonderful cats. This meeting allows you to interact with the cats in a comfortable and familiar environment, helping you find the perfect feline companion. Our dedicated team will be there to guide you, answer any questions, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience as you get to know your potential new family member.

4. Follow-up Conversation & Home Check

Once you've selected a cat you'd like to adopt, we'll arrange a follow-up conversation to discuss your experience, lifestyle, and expectations in more detail. Following this, we'll conduct a home check, either in-person or virtually, to ensure your living space is safe and suitable for our cats and kittens. This step also ensures that all essential items for your new feline friend have been purchased.

5. Sign Contract & Make A Payment

The next step is to issue a contract for you to sign and process the cat adoption fee. Once completed, you will receive a cat adoption certificate, formalizing the adoption and celebrating your new feline family member.

6. Pick Up Your Cat

The final step, after all of the steps have been completed, is for you to come and pick up your new best friend. We look forward to uniting you with your new feline companion.
