Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt

Your New Best Friend

Astoria Cat Rescue will consider adoptive families in the Astoria and surrounding areas only. This is simply due to logistics and distance of travel for our volunteers. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the cat's background and your family's needs. Every cat is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right cat with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the cat's permanent home.

If you are willing to wait for the right cat to be matched to you, you are an ideal candidate for Astoria Cat Rescue. As our success rate proves, these precious cats are well worth the wait.

Our Process

How We Help You Find Your New Best Friend!

Finding your feline friend has never been easier. Our 5-step application process is designed to ensure our cats find their purrfect forever homes. From applying online to finding your new companion, we'll guide you through a simple and straightforward journey. Our verification process may be thorough, but it's all about finding the right match for our lovable cats. Let us help you find your new best friend today!

1. Apply

We appreciate you wanting to bring a cat into your home. In order for us to find the right cat for you, we need you to submit an adoption application.

2. Review

We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity.

3.Phone Interview

Once your application review is complete, a Astoria Cat Rescue volunteer will reach out to you to schedule a phone interview. This initial conversation allows us to get to know you better, discuss your application, and answer any questions you may have.

4. Finding Your Cat

Once approved to adopt, the search for your cat begins. Volunteers will begin to evaluate cats in our foster care program who may be a good fit for you and your family.  We will arrange for you to meet & greet cats in our current foster care. You are welcome to meet several cats and discuss the best possible fit with our interviewer.

5. Follow-up Conversation & Home Check

If your initial application is approved, we'll schedule a follow-up conversation to chat more about your experience, lifestyle, and expectations. This will be followed by a check of your living spaces, either in-person or virtual, to ensure a safe and suitable environment for our cats and kittens

6. APPROVAL & Follow UP

After all of the above is complete, we will schedule a day/time for pick up or delivery of the kitty to your residence. We will also follow up with you for several days for updates on the adjustment process and whether you are experiencing any complications or issues. We are here to help with any tips or suggestions to make the transition as smooth as possible.
